Moth, the Pirate Cat
by Daniel Kratzke

Have you ever wondered what your cuddly pussy cat gets up to all day when all the children and grown ups are out of the house? Moth, the Pirate Cat, sets off on a treasure hunt through the deserted house, crossing the sinister sea of foam in the bathroom, full of lurking inflated sea monsters; fights her way through the jungle of houseplants in the sitting room and creeps past the snoring giants in the treasure chamber until she finally reaches the treasure chest: the well-stocked fridge.

The Thirsty Lion
by Heike Ellermann

The lion wanders through the desert sands. He is thirsty, terribly thirsty. Ahead of him is a long trek to find the life-saving water and an almost unbelievable and well-nigh unending story. Heike Ellermann is a proven storyteller as many schoolchildren will testify, and her pacy and exciting stories are told with simple words. Her text always skirts closely around the detailed illustrations, thus avoiding any duplication between the pictures and the text.

Best of Animal Life
by Uli Stein

Uli Stein's cartoons cast a highly intuitive light on topics which behavioural research keeps quiet from us. It goes without saying that this turns our current views on the characteristics of animals upside down. Gambling penguins, debauched mice and vain kangaroos, are just some of the creatures we only find in Uli Stein's animal life!

Purrr … Right Back At Ya!
by Uli Stein

Uli Stein on cats! Wittily, one might almost say cattily, he grabs our favourite pets by the whiskers and lays bare their almost incomprehensible quirks. He has observed them extremely closely and followed them into all their hiding places. So it's hardly surprising that he also comes across a mouse or two on the way.

THE CHRISTMAS ROSE
by Sepp Bauer and Else Wenz-Vietor

Once upon a time there was ... a traditional Advent fairytale. It was published around 1920 and is about two children who find out on St. nicholas' Day that their father, a poor woodcutter, is laid low terminally ill. The children ask St. Nicholas whether there is a remedy which could help their father. "Yes", St. nicholas replies, "there is such a remedy, but it is terribly difficult to get it. Very rarely a human being manages to get to King Winter and to elicit one of his white roses from him."
The children do not hesitate and set out on an arduous journey to Winter country. Now the Advent story tells us day by day what the children experience on their journey until they stand by their father's bed on christmas eve with a christmas rose in their hands and let him have a sniff of the flower.
